Backyard Playset Ideas

A backyard play space at a NJ residence. The play structures are set inside a white picket fence that is planted on both sides with a variety of perennials.  There is a play house, a swing set structure, sand box and plenty of open space for the kids to run.  There are several seating areas for parents to sit and watch their children play. The play area is set beneath several large trees that keeps the space cool on those hot summer days. The play area surface is covered with several inches of cedar mulch.

An Outdoor Living Room Design in Monmouth County, NJ

An outdoor living space for a client in Colts Neck, NJ. I've created two rooms off the house, informal, organic in design. The upper patio off the house has a bbq built into stone to match the proposed stone seating wall that frames the patio.  I have also incorporated a pergola to be softened with Wisteria. This will serve as the dining area with views to the back yard .  A few steps lead down to the lower patio which is to have casual seating and possibly a fire pit.  Both spaces are broken up with plantings and rock groupings to soften the stone work.  Concrete pavers can be substituted for the stone patio and a boxwood hedge can be used in leu of the stone sitting wall to frame the upper patio.

Front Yard Landscape Design in Montvale, NJ

A front yard landscape design for a residence in Montvale, NJ.  I've designed a brick apron at the driveway entrance and two simple driveway piers to pick up on the trim and railings of the house.  The apron adds interest with out breaking the bank as compared to doing the entire driveway in pavers.  I used a very simple palette of plant material preferring to use large groups repeated thought the front yard.  It gives for a lush yet simple pleasing final product.  Perennials and flowering ground covers help to tie the design together and provide interest throughout the season.

A cottage garden design idea

A garden design for a client in Westfield, NJ. I have added a touch of formality and structure by creating an oval lawn panel edged with weathered brick. As you enter the garden gate, a rustic brick walkway leads you through the garden to the front door of the house.  The frame/structure of the garden is created with evergreen and broadleaf evergreen shrub groupings. I am proposing a variety of perennial and ground cover groupings designed to bloom at different times throughout the season.  I've added a few other elements to the garden design such as teak benches and some simple obelisks planted with Clematis.

A spa design idea in Morris County, NJ

A back yard spa and pond design for a client in Morris County, NJ.  I am proposing to replace the deck with a stone terrace and their portable fiberglass spa with a much larger gunite spa.  The spa has been designed to seat 8 comfortably and it is to be a natural oasis surrounded with rock outcrops, waterfalls and lush plantings.  Below the spa will be a Koi pond with a path that carries you over to a small seating area and fire pit. This stone and boulder work is very custom.  My client wants to keep the spa open year round which will require a custom spa cover and custom equipment housing and design.

Landscape design idea in Warwick, NY

A back yard landscape plan for a residence located in Warwick, NY.  I have incorporated a stepping stone path, flagstone patio and bbq area framed with plantings. The back yard is very small with the the surrounding houses close by.  The idea is to create an experience of sitting in a garden and to have some privacy without creating a claustrophobic space. I am proposing to slightly sink the patio into the landscape and surround it with a variety of evergreen & flowering shrub groupings that vary in height.  Additional details and color will be provided with perennial and ground cover groupings. I want to use a natural cleft flagstone with hand tooled edges to give a rustic, weathered warm feeling for the seating area. The joints will be extra large and planted with low alpine perennials or grass for additional softening of the space.  This is one of several design ideas that I presented my client.

Front Yard Landscaping Ideas

A frontyard landscaping design idea at a New York residence.  Flowing bedlines and a layered planting scheme using a variety of shrubbery, perennials, groundcovers and some annuals. I designed this planting to change and provide color from April to October. Flowering bulbs such as Tulips and Crocus start the season along with Creeping Phlox & Myrtle.  I've also used Rhododendron, Holly, Peony, Lythrum, Shasta Daisy, Day Lily, Anemones, Thyme and Salvia to name a few. Some Boston Ivy has been planted to grow on the brick of the house to further soften the house.  Annuals are planted with in the Myrtle for additional splashes of color.

A Spring Garden

It is early spring and tulips are in bloom.  Perennials are just starting to grow and the shrub roses are leafing out. Weathered fieldstone has been for the retaining walls. Perennials will replace the tulips as they begin to fade later in the spring.

A patio garden design at a Westchester residence

A patio garden idea located in a Westchester, NY back yard. The original backyard had a very steep slope. I constructed a retaining wall at the rear of the property and trucked in soil to level the site.  I created a simple patio and surrounded it and the rest of the yard with flowering shrubbery, roses and an assortment of perennials.

Fine landscape masonry design and construction in Northern New Jersey.

A series of finely crafted stone walls and stone steps lead up to several terraces and finally to a formal swimming pool.  The stone steps are sawn thermaled bluestone slabs with a slightly rock faced edge.  Two stone piers flank the steps topped with urns and seasonal flowers. The stone walls are a blend of fieldstone and bluestone.  The patio is a patterned flagstone.

Outdoor Dining in a NJ Court Yard

A Shade Garden Design

A shade garden located in NY.  I used a method of blending using Hosta and Lamium to add some interest.  It is early morning and there is some sunlight, but for the majority of the day this bed is in full shade. The Hosta have bluish foliage and the Lamium has silvery foliage.

A Rustic Garden Wall and Plantings in a NJ Front Yard

A recently completed rustic stone wall and front yard planting located in northern New Jersey. This photo was taken in late April 10 months after completion of the project. In another season the perennials will begin to creep over the wall to further soften it. I used a variety of perennials to insure continuous color.

A Westchester front yard landscape renovation.

This front yard makeover features a new formal stone walkway, stepping stone paths and lush plantings. This photo has been taken one year after completion. I also renovated the side yard terrace which had a railing. The railing was removed and I installed a sitting wall around the perimeter of the terrace and a new flagstone patio. I matched the stucco finish to the house.  Lighting and a sound system has been built into the sitting walls. This renovation project is located in Southern Westchester.

Rustic Granite Front Stoop Design for a Historic NY Farm House

I hunted down some reclaimed granite curbs to create a front stoop for this 200 year old farm house.  Looks as though it came with the original home. The landscape design is very simple, using Vinca & Hydrangea.

Bergen County NJ Swimming Pool, Spa & Outdoor Kitchen Design

A simple rectangular swimming pool with some interesting details in a New Jersey back yard. A flagstone and lawn pattern create an elegant pool surround. A detached raised spa with a small spillway that flows back into the pool.  A raised patio and outdoor kitchen over looks the pool and garden. The kitchen area features a bar, refrigerator, grill and a wood burning oven imported from Tuscany with a masonry surround.

Custom BBQ and Stone Masonry in Paramus NJ

A small detailed outdoor kitchen design featuring a 36" DCS barbecue grill, refrigerator, granite countertop and stone veneer. A lot of hand tooling of the stone was required to achieve the tight fit and to curve the stones.  A storage area for firewood sits below the grill for the fire pit that sits out of view on the tumbled concrete paver patio.
