Beautiful pool waterfalls idea.
These are the upper falls of a cascading pool waterfall project in NJ. Stone steps follow the falls up to a spa which is out of site. I naturalized the space with a variety of rocks and boulders and planted all the nooks and crannies to soften the stone. I planted Hemlock behind the falls to provide a back drop and disguise the fifteen foot drop behind the falls. Achieving a natural look like this requires on site supervision, careful selection of materials and great attention to details.

A wonderfull ground cover idea.
A beautiful country garden located in the NY Hudson Valley. I massed Bishops Weed under these River Birch. The River Birch are shallow rooted, so extra irrigation is required to keep this ground cover lush.

How Long Before My New Landscape Fills In?
The upper photo is of a planting just installed in July in the NJ area. The next step is mulch and then I have to wait. The photo below was taken 10 months later. I've been doing jobs like this for quite some time and I still have a difficult time convincing clients that their new planting will fill in within a year or two as in the bottom photo. Choosing the right plants for the right location, using the right soil mix, feeding and water will give you the same results that I get.

Retaining Walls and Garden Step Idea
To cut down on the costs of this project I installed a segmental block wall system in lieu of natural stone. To blend and soften these walls I curved them, used rocks and used stone slab steppers. Plantings also help to soften the concrete block. I staggered path lights along the steps.

Swimming Pool Spa Idea
A simple spa design detached from the main swimming pool and tied in with the upper patio area. I used PA fieldstone for the spa veneer and bluestone for the coping. Lights are recessed under the coping. Ten foot Arborvitae were planted to give immediate privacy. The perimeter is planted with an assortment of perennials and annuals.
I left some random openings in the patio that is planted with Thyme.

Back Yard Living in NJ
This challenging backyard had a 15 foot change in grade and a rough boulder wall before I started this project. I designed and installed a series of stone retaining walls and natural stone slabbed steps leading down from a new deck and upper patio. The lower stone pool patio featured in this photo is a mortared to a concrete slab. An outdoor kitchen can be seen on a mid level patio to the right. A sound system and lighting system surrounds the stone work and is hidden in the plantings.

A small pond and spillway built along side a stone patio in Blauvelt NY.
The waterfall is small, providing a subtle soothing sound of running water. It is deep enough to provide a home for several fish. A bog provides the filtration.

Back yard living idea.
A terrific backyard space to relax and entertain at a NY residence.
Directly off the house is a small terrace and pergola with two chaise lounges with views to the Hudson River. A lower patio for dining is framed with a stone sitting wall which helps two form an outdoor room, yet keeps the views open to the yard. Lighting is recessed under the stone coping as well as fixtures placed high in the trees. A small outdoor kitchen is situated several steps down from the main patio.
The main attraction is a Koi pond and several waterfalls with a stepping stone path that takes you across the pond to the back yard. The rest of the property is lushly planted with Ferns, Perennials and Shrubbery.

An arial view of a backyard landscaping and swimming pool design project. The swimming pool features several benches, a tanning ledge, dive rock and waterfalls. The stone pool deck is softened with plantings and boulder groupings. A gazebo sits on to top of the waterfalls with views of the back yard in all directions. Stepping stones and stone slab steppers link the pool area to the main patio which is situated off the back of the house. This patio features a fire pit and outdoor kitchen. An open rolling lawn keeps the views open to the woods and lake beyond.
